Veterans Day

November 4th, 2011 by Skeeter Nash

I hope you take the time to thank a veteran over the weekend! My late Dad served stateside in the Army Air Corps (predecessor to the US Air Force) during World War II, and my three oldest brothers each did a tour of Army duty in Vietnam. By the grace of God and my Mom’s prayers, all 3 made it back safe and mostly sound. I say “mostly” because everybody who served in that war was left at least somewhat emotionally scarred. My oldest brother, Roger Jr. (or “Bud” as the family calls him) got out of the Army, worked in the private sector for a few years, then joined the California Army National Guard, and was the Public Information Officer for the Guard during the LA riots in the early-90’s after the Rodney King verdict was announced. Bud rose to the rank of Colonel, and has been retired from the Guard for about 20 years or so now. I’m proud of the vets in my family, and I thank them and all who serve for having done so.

I’ve often said I’d love to see a band called “Sons of Beatles,” with Julian and/or Sean Lennon, James McCartney, Dhani Harrison and Zak Starkey. Well, this might come close…with Paul & Ringo performing (together?) for the London Olympics opening?
